My Memorial Day 2006

Happy Memorial Day!

I have to say this was my most memorable Memorial Day ever.  Not because I hung out at the beach all day drinking beer, playing volleyball and telling jokes, not because I got a new car or a raise, not because I partied till the sun came up just because I had an extra day off, and not because I went to Nascar.  This was my favorite Memorial Day ever because I got to meet and work with some of America's Finest Citizens!

Now, there definitely was a story and it was really tough getting there....15 hours verses 9....but it was worth every minute of it!  I volunteered with the Minutemen Civil Defense Corp. for the Arizona border fence project.  Please look at the website to see how you can donate or volunteer.

Okay, back to my weekend....

It was so wonderful because I was able to meet so many like-minded Patriotic Americans coming from all across the country, all walks of life to unite for a common purpose.  Our purpose was to start protecting our borders from illegal invaders since our government leaders forgot which country they were leading and which Constitution they were protecting.  These people all had an incredible amount of spirit, pride and demonstrative love and respect for their country, their ancestors, and their children....they all admired and respected our soldiers of the present and the past. (PLEASE DO NOT FORGET!) There were all races, ages, 1st generation legal immigrants and 5th generation Americans, school teachers and homemakers.  Many retired border patrol and military veterans joined us as well!  Computer programmers, farmers, senior citizens, even a woman with polio!  Some were white, red, brown and green!  Hippies, liberals, right-wing extremists, activists, social workers, dog sitters and house cleaners.....one even clained to be a fruit!   We were all so different, different talents, different interests, completely different lives, yet so similar.  All came from different backgrounds, but all reached towards the same goal.

Palominas, Az is not a travel destination city.  I think the population is around 1000.....if that.  What I'm trying to say is that the people I had the opportunity to get to know this weekend were some of the most beautiful red-blooded Americans in this country!  They were dedicated to sacrifice whatever they could in hopes of waking up our government to protect our childrens' future.  Without this common bond, we never would have known each other existed.  Without the vision of Chris Simcox and many other incredibly brave Minutemen leaders' hard work and dedication, we would have all remained sitting around talking about all our frustrations with the lack of border control and all the problems it has led to in our own little cornes of the country.  But with these courageous Americans diligent work, we were able to unite and work together for a more secure America!  We are tired of waiting for the government to do it's job!  We all drove from various parts of the country to take part in this event.  Most people I know think that I'm crazy for driving 1150 miles and sleeping in my car on top of a bunch of coolers in a remote desert to be a part of this.  I have been accused of being "nuts," "racist," "extreme and fanatical" because I chose to take my rent money and spend it on gas and supplies for as many volunteers as I could feed.  I took out all the seats of my van, except one for my dog Snickers, and brought fresh baked cookies, brownies and breads, fruit, nuts, candy, chips, 12 cases of water, several cases of juices, etc.....I feel it is the least I can do for these hard working volunteers who choose to protect out country and our children!  I had the support of many who lent me their coolers, bought ice and supplies, even filled up my gas tank!  One wonderful man even followed me for quite a ways to make sure my 9 year old van would be safe!  I also had others offer to help for the next project!  It was nice to see all the support from the true core of America!  THANK YOU, FELLOW AMERICANS!

You know, my contributions really weren't much, but I made a few people smile.  I made new friends who also want to make a difference in this country.  I really wanted to do more this weekend, but I had to get back to get my kids so they can get to school in the morning and I to work.  I really wish there was a way to devote all my time to this cause and still get my bills paid!  I've always loved to serve and I can't think of a better way to serve my children, my country, my ancestors and our founding fathers!

Please don't forget to remember our fallen soldiers and the brave man and women who have fought and died for your freedom!  It might not hurt to even take a few minutes and really think about what 'freedom' means to you.....if you're thinking what I'm thinking, might I suggest thanking a soldier or minuteman for his service....then you need to join us for the next project!  If you really believe in FREEDOM, I know you can find a way to make time in your busy schedule to help us out.....and feel free to go to the website and donate any extra cash you might have!

I think this ended up being a lot longer than I had planned.  I'm sooooo tired, I need to get to bed!  Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers I met this weekend!  I highly recommend this experience for EVERYONE!

Good night!
